Wow, I definitely came back to Earth with a bang! The last week has been jam packed and mental since I came back from Australia, but that, my friends, is a whole other story. Australia was incredible. I am not much of a traveller, never really been interested in it. But I reached a point where I felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff, just looking out at everything, and it was time to jump. Fall or fly, if you will. So, I decided to fly! …23 hours on a plane, to the other side of the world!
Part 1- The Sydney Saga
May it never be said that I am not spontaneous 😉 So, we arrived in Sydney on Saturday night, absolutely shattered, to the chirping of thousands of cicadas, and booked into some university accommodation for the first couple of nights. (All the hostels were full ) I know you hear about Australia being expensive, but we were both so taken aback by the prices that we lived out of vending machines for 2 days xD watched Neighbours (megalol) and slept from about 3pm (bloody jetlag). We did a bit of exploring, but we were way out in the sticks, there were no supermarkets, just a corner shop, and takeaways. Also cockroach number 1- this became a “thing” and I swear I developed a phobia 😛 They eased me in though, this one, though big, was squashed, and dead. Unfortunately our luck was to change in that department.
On Monday we traversed to our first hostel in Sydney. Honestly, I wasn’t looking forward to not having any personal space, but I was surprised, it wasn’t actually that bad for a couple of days a time. We ventured to Sydney Opera House, and Harbour bridge, and when we strolled through the Botanical Gardens, I came across these fine chaps; the mysterious creatures we would grow to love and worship- the Omen Birds!
Tuesday was “Get Burnt at the beach” day. We both failed at putting on enough Sun lotion, and we were harshly punished L I somehow sliced my hand open that morning too, no idea how, but we saw a LOT more Omen birds after that… apparently they require a blood sacrifice. They were lucky birds though, I always got a streak of luck whenever they were around 😀
On Wednesday we went to the aquarium and Wildlife centre, that was both standard and pretty awesome at the same time J Fishy smiles are so SO funny xD
And look, this one is like a baby ghost hehehe xD
Ahem, moving on…
Thursday was most definitely Ceiling Girl day. Oh my… poor Cathy was traumatised. Girl from the top bunk next to me goes out on the pull. I’m shattered (still jetlagged), but get woken up at bout 3:30 am by a random guy wielding a flashlight. Next thing, this guy and the girl are … ahem… going wild on the top bunk; so many positions that I felt like was in a very dark and sordid yoga class. And the noise… ok lets not even go there. I just felt sorry for the girl on the bottom bunk- rocking involuntarily up and down, up and down. Ackkkkk.
The weekend was pretty awesome- trip to the Blue Mountains, and spending the evenings standing under fruit trees at dusk watching hugeee flying foxes land in them. Oh, and meeting this guy, who was just observing us from the trees xD
And with that, our time in Sydney had come to an end. Sunday morning we flew to Cairns… and that, my beautiful friends, is a story for next week. Mega long post here, so thanks for reading!
Much love. x
